The Senses 1991 - 92

The Senses incorporates six distinct spaces delineated by a series of curtained areas within the gallery. The installation includes, “The Ensemble for Three Female Voices”, “Taste”, “Don’t Touch”, “Limited Vision”, “Smell”, and “The Sixth Sense”. “The Ensemble for Three Female Voices and The Sixth Sense” were presented in the 1993 Whitney Biennial. “Taste 2” is an iteration of “Taste” that was shown separately as a stand alone work.       

The Ensemble for Three Female Voices 1991

Lipstick cast into a mold made from a human tongue and larynx, audio with overlapping sounds of an infant, a thirty year old woman, and an eighty year old woman laughing and crying.

Taste 1991

Table setting with video images as the plates - in one video food is being consumed - in the other people are kissing the camera.

Don’t Touch 1991

Stainless steal stands supporting a hot wire. Literally Don’t touch.

Limited Vision 1991

Muslin and nylon curtains, mirrored mylar, lights, with no entrance to the enclosure.

Smell; An-esthetic 1992

Muslin, hospital curtains, I.V. stand, mayo table and instruments, hospital brackets, monitors with video .

The Sixth Sense (Sensory Sensor) 1992-93

Red velvet curtains, two way mirrors, monitors, with videos that replace the viewer’s heads and torsos.

Taste 2 1991

Bathroom scale with embedded video of a woman eating different plates of food - The video is played at high speed first playing forward and then in reverse.
